Dr. Schumer acquired Schumer Dental's East Tucson office on Wilmot Road in 2012 and opened the Oro Valley office at 11115 N La Cañada Dr in late 2025. He's a 2022 and 2025 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics finalist and sees dental emergencies for patients across Saddlebrooke, Rancho Vistoso, Catalina Foothills, Tanque Verde and the broader Tucson area.

What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe Toothache
Sudden, severe or persistent tooth pain is a dental emergency. Call us right away.
Broken or Cracked Tooth
A fractured tooth needs prompt attention to prevent infection and further damage. Many can be restored with a dental crown.
Lost Crown or Filling
A lost crown or filling leaves the tooth exposed. Call us — we'll tell you how quickly you need to be seen.
Swelling or Infection
Swelling in your gum or face can mean an infection. Call us the same day — and see the ER guidance below if it's spreading.
Broken Implant Crown
If the crown on top of your implant breaks, we can help. (Broken implants themselves require a surgeon.)

Can I get in same day?
If you're in pain, Dr. Schumer will always do his best to see you the same day, either at our office or through one of our trusted specialists. That applies to new patients too. Please call first, as we don't take walk-ins.

No, we don't take walk-ins. Please call first. If you're in pain, we'll do everything we can to get you in quickly.
Do you see dental emergencies on weekends or after hours?
Outside regular office hours, including weekends, call the office nearest you and leave a message. We'll call you back as soon as the office opens and do our best to fit you in that day. If you have spreading swelling, trouble breathing or swallowing, or a serious facial injury, go to the ER or call 911.
Can I be seen if I don't have dental insurance?
Yes. You don't need insurance to be seen. After your exam, we give you a cost estimate with and without insurance so you know what to expect before any treatment.
What if Dr. Schumer doesn't perform the procedure I need?
Dr. Schumer handles general, restorative and cosmetic dentistry. For surgery (including oral surgery for knocked-out teeth or implant placement), root canals and other specialty procedures, we refer you to specialists we trust, so you get the right person for your situation.
What about the cost?
After your examination, we give you estimates of service costs with and without insurance. We never want you to have a surprise at checkout.
How fast can I be seen?
It depends on your situation and our schedule. The goal is always to see you as soon as possible, but timing varies. Please call so we can triage.
Do you fix broken implants?
We fix broken crowns on top of implants. Broken implants themselves are handled by an oral surgeon, and we'll refer you.

Yes. Our Oro Valley office sees many snowbirds and winter visitors. If something goes wrong during your stay, call us, and we'll coordinate with your home dentist for any follow-up care.
